City of Los Angeles

Pre-approved by LADBS — covers plan YOU-ADU. Free for any City of LA property owner.

About City of Los Angeles

The Los Angeles City Council passed a Motion, under the leadership of Council District 14, in an effort to alleviate the affordable housing crisis in Los Angeles. In response to the Motion, the Bureau of Engineering, in coordination with Building and Safety, have developed this pre-approved ADU standard plan. This ADU standard plan is provided free to applicants, and focuses on affordability without compromising thoughtful design. The plan aims to meet various housing needs in the City of Los Angeles and contribute to the shortage of affordable housing options.

An applicant may submit this pre-approved ADU standard plan themselves, or may choose to have an Architect or Contractor of their choice to do so for them. The Applicant will need to submit additional site-specific information for LADBS review, including compliance with the Zoning Code and foundation requirements.
